The GHD Mk 1V Pink straighteners

by Gemma

GHD are a relatively new name on the hair styling scene, but they are already a benchmark success; the fact that GHD pink straighteners are still selling, 5 years after their launch, is proof of that. And proof, too, that even in the world of commerce there is room for a little charity.

Quite a lot of charity, in fact.

GHD first came to the world’s attention in 2000 when they purchased the patent rights to the world’s first ceramic straightener. Overnight, a phenomenon was born – along with one of the biggest names in international haircare.

The GHD ceramic straighteners revolutionised the way women viewed their hair. There were plenty of straightening tools on the market already, of course – but they all relied on metal plates to straighten the hair.

These were heavy, abrasive, and heated unevenly. They were very damaging – especially to fine, salon treated hair.

Product manufacturers had tried to improve the design with various metal plating techniques, with limited success. The real revolution happened when GHD’s ceramic straightener appeared on the scene. The world’s smoothest, smartest flat iron.

Suddenly, every salon in the country wanted to buy a set of GHDs. Ceramic straighteners were light and portable. They heated up quickly and evenly, with none of the snagging and tearing of other kinds of irons. The brand name became an icon – even today, people refer to ceramic straighteners as ‘GHDs’.

As quality went up, prices came down – especially on the internet. Suddenly, beautiful straight hair was within everybody’s grasp.

Ceramic technology went even further, with the invention of tourmaline plates. These, together with other forms of ionic energy, helped to improve the condition of heat treated hair from the inside out. The negative ions ensured ultimate heat protection, and made frizz a thing of the past.

As usual, GHD kept up with all the latest developments, sharing the top spot in reviews with American companies like FHI and Hot Tools.

In 2004, GHD once more became a trendsetter, releasing the UK’s first ever pink straighteners – a custom made design on behalf of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

This established their long line of Special Edition straighteners – and led to them becoming a haircare cult. Their Special Edition irons are instant collectors items, and there is always a Pink among them. All are sold in aid of breast cancer research.

In fact, there’s a whole range of GHD Pink products, including a thermal protect serum and shampoo. You can co-ordinate your hair accessories and help a charity!

GHD prefers quality over quantity. Thus, their range is relatively small; but it always incorporates the very latest ionic and digital technology. The GHD 1V is the latest model, and it’s their most versatile styling iron yet. The Special Edition 1V range includes the Pink Kiss.

If you compare the Kiss to other pink straighteners on the market, it stands out a mile. Instead of baby pastels, GHD has gone for sizzling metallic. Like the Chi Pink Limited Edition and Babyliss Pro Pink, it has been designed with curling and straightening in mind, with rounded edges and a narrow 1” barrel. There is a wider salon version for thick or afro hair.

The Kiss 1V has ionic tourmaline conditioning plates, and a self-adjusting digital temperature control. This ensures perfect, long-lasting styling. To make you look even more gorgeous, the styler comes with a pack of pink lip gloss!

The latest addition to the 1V range is a cordless version – pink straighteners to go anywhere! Look out for these online, along with product vouchers and special discount deals.
